Data flow and management

Monday, February 1, 2010 to Saturday, February 6, 2010

A workshop on data flow and data management for the East & Horn of Africa CoP was held at Egerton University in Nairobi, Kenya. This workshop was led by Cathy Garlick, a senior computing advisor and data management specialist at the University of Reading, UK. Each CoP project sent two representatives to this workshop to discuss the ideas of data "flowing" through a project and to provide practical, hands-on experience in managing research data using databases and spreadsheets. The aim of this workshop was to furnish participants with skills required to produce quality research data that is useful both throughout the project and beyond. Carlos Barahona, a statistics expert at the Statistical Services Centre (SSC), and Jesse Poland, a post-doc at Cornell University provided support in statistics, genetic analysis and gadgetry issues. The participants appreciated the training they received and are enthusiastic about services offered by the CCRP research methods support team.
