EHAf 3ed Annual Community of Practice Meeting
CoP3-E/HAf was held September 25-30, 2011 at the Masai Lodge in Nairobi, Kenya. In attendance were grantees representing the 12 CoP projects; the CoP Regional Team, CCRP Advisory Committee; meeting resource persons, Hamado Tapsoba (RR-WAf), and the meeting facilitation team. Dr. Bashir of AGRA and Dr. Prem Warrior of the Gates Foundation also joined a portion of the meeting. The conference theme focused on Agro-Ecological Intensification (AEI) with the expected outcome that participants would gain a better understanding of AEI and how it fits into their respective project activities. The meeting included two days of presentations on project activities; presentations on RT activities within the region; a brief from John Lynam and John Recha on progress made toward advancing a virtual AEI Network targeting graduate students; and a presentation by resource person Shamie Zingore on AEI and possibilities for fitting this theme into projects. The third day of the meeting was dedicated to science seminars in which projects presented a more in-depth aspect of their work in a format that permitted examination of research details and implications. The fourth day of the meeting included an early morning game drive and breakfast in the nearby Nairobi National followed by a tutorial on use of Data & Document Store (DDS) from Thomas Mawora and an IMEP session centered around evaluating the E/HAf CoP and project planning. The final day of the workshop was dedicated to project planning, reporting on plans made and what projects intend to do differently based on experiences and knowledge gained during the week’s discussions. Ed Rege, who typically facilitates this meeting, was missed due to personal circumstances. Paul Kibwika of PicoTeam Uganda did a fantastic job in helping the group to achieve the conference objectives. Photo left: A research methods session presented by Ric Coe.
